Garden Terrace Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence in Aurora, Colorado, recently earned a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
The CMS ratings system is designed to assist the public in choosing care for their loved ones. It calculates ratings based on results of health inspections, staffing and quality measures (including pain management, pressure ulcers, weight loss and falls).
Leia Blackwood, director of nursing, shared that achieving a five-star rating is even more challenging for centers whose residents are all dementia patients.
“Here at Garden Terrace, every associate in every department receives extensive dementia training to be able to provide quality, person-centered care with compassion to the residents,” said Blackwood. “We are able to offer our residents a personalized dementia living environment while supporting and promoting their best ability to function. We couldn’t be more proud of our facility and associates and are grateful to continue providing excellent care to the residents we have been entrusted with.”
The rating officially posted on the CMS website in fall 2017.
